Conservation efforts by various groups for species on the endangered list….going, going, almost gone!

Here is a wonderful site from the Hancock Wildlife Channel. This site has a live Eagle Cam of bald eagles in various states in the USA and Canada sitting on eggs! You can watch these majestic birds in their natural habitat hatching out the next generation of bald eagles.  From this site there are many links to read about the conservation efforts of bald eagles in the USA. If you are a resident of PA, a great place to start protecting wildlife is in our own back yard! For more than 100 years, the PA Game Commission has managed the Commonwealth's wildlife resources for all Pennsylvanians. With the help of more than 700 full-time employees and thousands of part-timers and volunteers, the agency provides a host of benefits to wildlife, state residents and visitors. This is a group who truly care about our wildlife, without the hidden agendas of other groups who claim to care. 

The PGC Board of Game Commissioners is an independent administrative commission comprised of eight competent Pennsylvania citizens who are well informed on the subject of wildlife conservation and restoration.  These commissioners are appointed by the Governor. The PGC represent all Pennsylvanians and the state's wildlife resources, favoring no particular group, interest, species or geographical area.

The Puerto Rican Amazon is the only parrot indigenous to the USA left in the wild.  This parrot is extremely endangered.  The Puerto Rican Amazon was listed as an endangered species (one of the 10 most endangered birds in the world) back in 1967 and the number of birds in the wild are still under 40 to date.  The USFW has stepped forward to aid in a recovery project to try to increase wild populations with releasing captive bred birds. As we know, captive bred birds do not fair well in the wild.  Many of the skills that are taught by being a member of an established flock are lost when captive bred.  They did however build up over 100 of these birds for their captive breeding program.
